# Tune what your agent gets

> Make Alike's automatic context quieter, turn parts off, or stop one item from showing again.

You control the context that Alike adds to your agent's sessions. Ask your agent to change the settings. There is no page for these settings in the web app.

> These settings change only what Alike gives to your agents. They do not change what your machine sends to Alike, or who sees your data. See [Privacy controls](https://alike.help/privacy/controls.md).

## See your current settings

The agent lists each setting, its value, and where the value comes from.

## Use a preset

| Preset | Effect |
| - | - |
| `quiet` | Less context during a session. The session brief and prompt matches stay on. Alike stops searching the agent's answers, and drops updates about your other sessions |
| `focus` | Only context about the current work. The brief does not list live sessions (not even sessions on the same work), other work in progress, or colleagues. No updates about other sessions |
| `demo` | Every type of context on |
| `full` | Remove all your changes at this level, and go back to the defaults. Items that you told Alike to stop showing stay hidden |

## Common changes

| You want to | Ask your agent |
| - | - |
| Never see one item again | "Tell Alike to stop showing me `urn:alike:task:…`" |
| Turn off the brief at session start | "Turn off Alike's session brief" |
| Turn off matches for my prompts | "Turn off Alike's prompt grounding". This also stops the matches that arrive after tool calls |
| Stop the agent from continuing a turn to tell me about a question from a colleague | "Stop Alike from continuing a turn to tell me about questions". The questions stay in your daily briefing |
| Never get one type of item, for example documents | "Exclude documents from Alike's injection" |
| Stop updates about my other sessions | "Stop Alike's updates about my other sessions" |
| Stop Alike's notes before file edits | Write `{"save": false}` to `~/.alike/runtime/flags.json` |

## Apply a change to one agent or one session

A setting can apply at three levels. The nearest level wins:

1. **One session**: for example, "Make Alike quiet for this session only." A session setting ends after 24 hours unless you choose a different time.
2. **One agent**: for example, "Turn off Alike's session brief in Codex only."
3. **All your agents**: this is the default level.

To make a change for a limited time, say how long: "Mute Alike's prompt matches for 2 hours."

## Undo a change

> Clear the Alike setting for the session brief.

Or apply the `full` preset to remove all your changes at a level.

To show a hidden item again:

> Clear Alike's dismiss setting for `urn:alike:task:…`.
