# Quickstart

> Create an account, connect your agents, and run your first briefed session.

This guide takes about 10 minutes. You need macOS or Linux, Node.js 18 or later, and at least one [supported coding agent](https://alike.help/get-started/supported-agents.md).

> [!TIP]
>
> Prefer to let your coding agent do it? It can run the whole setup, account included. See [Install from a script or agent](https://alike.help/install/non-interactive.md).

**1. Create your account**

Go to [alike.network](https://alike.network) and select **Sign Up**. Create or join a workspace. On the **Connect your agents** page, select **Continue**. You can pair later. See [Sign up](https://alike.help/get-started/sign-up.md).

Stay signed in. You need the browser in step 4.

**2. Choose your sharing level**

When you select **Continue**, Alike applies **High Sharing**. Your workspace then sees your agents' session summaries, your decisions, your documents, and your calendar events. To share less, open **Settings → Privacy** now, before you run the installer. See [Who sees what](https://alike.help/privacy/who-sees-what.md).

**3. Run the installer**

In a terminal on the machine where you code:

```bash theme={null}
npx @alikeai/setup
```

Confirm the agents that it found. Choose the agents to capture transcripts from. See [Install Alike](https://alike.help/install/install.md).

**4. Approve the pairing code**

The installer prints a link and a code. Open the link in the browser where you are signed in, and select **Approve**. If the code is not filled in, go to **Settings → AI Agents** and type it under **Enter your pairing code**. You have 10 minutes.

When you see `✔ Wired + authenticated.`, the machine is connected.

**5. Restart your agents and sign in**

Close and open each agent. The first time an agent connects to Alike, approve the **alike** MCP server. Then sign in in the browser.

For Codex, also approve the **Hooks need review** prompt.

**6. Start a session**

Open a project on a git branch and ask your agent:

> What does Alike know about this work?

The agent links the session to the branch and shows what Alike knows. In a new workspace this is little. It grows with each session.

**7. Record your first decision**

When you choose an approach, ask:

> Record that decision in Alike, with the alternative we rejected.

The next session on this code gets the decision.

**8. Check the dashboard**

Open [alike.network](https://alike.network). The **Agents** page shows your session. The **Analytics** page fills in as your imported history arrives. This can take an hour.

## If something does not work

Run:

```bash theme={null}
npx @alikeai/setup --doctor
```

Then see [Troubleshooting](https://alike.help/help/troubleshooting.md).

## Next steps

* [Alike in your agent](https://alike.help/use/in-your-agent.md): what your agent gets and what to ask.
* [Work with teammates](https://alike.help/use/teammates.md): invite your team.
* [Tune what your agent gets](https://alike.help/use/tune-context.md): make Alike quieter or louder.
